Hive Cup at HandyCon 15 🐝

We are buzzing to have Gen42 Games hosting another Hive Tournament!



What is Hive all about?


If you’ve never played Hive before, don’t worry—it’s easy to learn and great fun to play Hive is a two-player abstract strategy game where the aim is to surround your opponent’s Queen Bee to win. There’s no board or fiddly setup, just clever tactics and a bit of buzzing. Perfect for all experience levels!

Tournament Details

  • When and Where?

    Starts at 11 AM until 1 PM, 19h of January, Sunday, at HandyCon 15.

  • Format: A 5-round Swiss tournament, so everyone plays five games (no eliminations). Up to 24 Players.

  • Time Control:  10 minutes per player + 10 seconds per move, with the entire event lasting about 2 hours.

  • Special Rules:  We’re using the Pillbug, Ladybird, and Mosquito expansions, but don’t worry—everything will be explained on the day.

  • Cheat Sheets Provided: Handy guides will be available to help everyone get the hang of the game quickly.


 


Prizes to Play For!

Whether you’re aiming to win or just playing for fun, we’ve got some great prizes lined up:

  • 1st Place:  A stylish Hive T-shirt and a 1-day ticket for the UK Games Expo (on the day of the UK Hive Cup finals 2025).

  • 2nd Place:  A Hive Magnetic Set, perfect for gaming on the go.

  • Everyone:  Every participant will receive a physical Hive badge as a memento of the event.

    And here’s a little extra motivation, if we raise £60 or more, every participant in the tournament who’s a HandyCon website member will earn a special Hive 2025 Badge to display proudly on their profile.


  • European Finals: The winner of the UKGE Finals will be also rewarded with free accommodation for two nights and a flight ticket reimbursed (up to ÂŁ100) to participate at the European Hive Convention and Open 2025 in Budapest, Hungary. (21-22 June 2025)


 


Support a Great Cause


Joining the Tournament is completely free for HC 15 Attendees, but we would like to suggest a £2-3 donation to support HandyCon 15 chosen charity as part of the tournament entry, as mentioned, if we raise £60 or more, every participant who’s a HandyCon website member will earn a special Hive 2025 Badge to display on their profile. It’s a lovely way to support Age UK, Milton Keynes while having fun.
